CAREER GUIDE

RIG THE GAME IN YOUR FAVOR.

The old school to career model doesn’t cut it. Go to college, work hard and you’ll be successful isn’t a complete formula in this economy. There’s more people with college degrees, which means more competition, and more worthless majors. There are well-paying jobs that don’t require a 4-year college degree, which means you don’t have to go to college, and you don’t have to wait two or even four years to start making money to help your family.

AI has entered the chat, which means  some entry level, “just get your foot in the door” jobs are never coming back (in publishing, finance, legal) and the jobs you want require a knowledge of how to collaborate with AI …meaning how to use the data to make decisions, how to check behind the algorithm to confirm it considered all the key factors, or how to coordinate with the machine to deliver a product or component.

And There are individual factors that work hard, go to college, and you’ll be successful career formula doesn’t take into account too. You’ve heard your network is your networth, but you rarely hear insights into the people skills you need to build or maintain one. You’re done with workshops about the importance of public speaking and communication skills, without practice on how to promote yourself as a qualified candidate during an initial interview, how to introduce yourself to colleagues during an internship so they immediately recognize your professional value, or how to ask questions about additional opportunities or how you can improve your chances of being hired without seeming pushy or desperate.

Meet Lawrese Brown

I’m Lawrese Brown, an author, career coach, trainer, former adjunct professor, and PhD candidate hell-bent on guiding students and professionals toward the actions that truly matter to career fulfillment and success.

I know what it’s like to network my way into a position, and to take a position just to get my foot in the door. I know what it’s like to be promoted due to a job well done and to be let go due to office politics. I know what it’s like to be a celebrated first-time manager over a team of twelve and what it’s like to have a manager that doesn’t like you, won’t invest in you, and will actively sabotage you no matter how well you perform. I know what it’s like to make 6 figures at a job and I know what it’s like to make 6 figures in business.

I’ve written, coached and strategized with others through achievements and disappointments.

DECISION TWO: WHAT’S YOUR FIRST JOB?

JOB SECURITY aka having options requires you to select a job or career that’s growing or in-demand IS KEY TO THE GAME. You are not going to the same job for the rest of your life, or even the same job for the next four years. But being able to secure an opportunity 3-6 months after graduating is the whole point of school.

What’s your choice?

DECISION ONE: WHAT’s NEXT AFTER HIGH SCHOOL ARE YOU WILLING TO COMPLETE?

Completion of a credential is key to the game. Those with some college but no degree or who stop after high school have the most limited job opportunities. What’s your choice?

I am not going to a 4-year college, and I’m still not sure what to do next

Intermediate Career Conversations

DECISION THREE: WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU HAVE ACCESS TO?

Owning that relevant experience is more important to landing your first job than resilience is a cheat code. Your neighborhood and your networks influence your personal and professional experiences.  Access is about location, transportation and social ties. What people skills do you need to build a community of those who know about you?

  • I Need To Speak With Confidence About My Professional Skills So I Can Build A Network

  • I Need To Prepare For Commonly Asked Questions In An Interview

DECISION FOUR: WHAT”S THE BEST WAY TO SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW?

Owning that once you get into college it’s not about Academic intelligence but competence is a cheat code. It’s not about your GPA its about being capable or able to comprehend instructions and articles, to analyze results, to investigate a process so that you can repeat it so that you can communicate the reasoning behind your decisions. What projects are most relevant to career goal?

  • I Know What Motivates Me As Person And I’m Able To Show Results, Now I Need To Translate That Online

  • I Need A Better Understanding Of Myself And How I Contribute To A Company’s Bottom Line.

Testimonial/praise/gratitude below:

I came to career coaching in a season of transition—craving more purpose and alignment, but unsure of how to chart a path forward. I had achieved many professional milestones, but something deeper was calling: a desire to work in a way that truly reflects who I am.

Working with Lawrese was exactly what I needed. She created a space where I could reflect honestly, explore possible directions and reimagine what my work could look and feel like. I never anticipated learning so much about how certain personality traits show up in my interactions! She helped me become aware of my default patterns and practice new approaches, clarify my values, reconnect with my confidence and take actionable steps toward a career that sustains both my ambition and my well-being.

Lawrese is exceptionally gifted—intuitive, skilled, clear, creative and deeply understands how to coach the person in front of her. Thank you for doing what you do.
